White Pepper

Pepper (Piper Nigrum) is the fruit of a flowering vine family named ‘Piperaceae’. White pepper is called “safed mirch” in Hindi. The word Pepper comes from a Sanskrit word “Pippali” meaning berry. The corns are relatively bigger in size than normal pepper corns. The corns are relatively bigger in size than normal pepper corns. For making white pepper, the corns are harvested once they turn ripe. They are then dried and the outer skin is scrubbed off to reveal the inner white seed. White pepper tastes less complex than black because of its lower piperine content. Owing to its unique aesthetics, white pepper is mainly used to add a peppery zest to light coloured cream based soups, sauces and instant noodles. Like black pepper, white pepper can also be used as a nasal decongestant, for sore throat, as an exfoliator and even as an anti-bacterial agent.
